The 4th session of the Working Group on a Binding Treaty to Regulate the Activities of Multinationals was held from 15 to 19 October 2018.
The Intergovernmental Working Group on a United Nations Treaty to Regulate the Activities of Multinational Corporations (OEIGWG) met again in Geneva. As usual, CETIM actively contributed to the work of the Working Group and the organisation of conferences.
The negotiation process on the binding treaty entered a new phase with the presentation of a first draft treaty by the Chair of the Working Group (Ecuador), encouraging States to start a real negotiation on the content of the said draft treaty. The Global Campaign has made concrete proposals and comments on the draft treaty, in the form of a written contribution, in order to improve its content, given that the draft in question has many shortcomings.

In addition, the CETIM participated in the development of a survey with its partners: Les Amis de la Terre France, the Observatoire des multinationales and the Transnational Institute. This survey reveals how the European Union has opposed the process since its inception.
