The “One life here, one vote here” initiative will be put to the vote in Geneva on 9 June. It promotes a concept of citizenship based on residence rather than nationality. If accepted at the ballot box, this initiative will enable foreign nationals to have their say on the laws to which they are subject and to accede to elective political functions. It highlights the importance of representation and the exercise of democracy in a canton where 40% of residents are excluded.
