HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
28th session
March 2015
[Excerpt from the statement]
We also recognise the positive role that the Government has played in preventing environmental deterioration and water pollution by not granting mining permits. An emblematic case is that of the Australian-based company Oceana Gold, which insists on its will to start a mining project that would have adverse consequences for the population and water, and which attacks the sovereign decision of the government of El Salvador before international arbitration tribunals such as ICSID. We encourage you to continue to be firm in your opposition to such projects.
