Lebanon, the right to health in wartime

10/10/2024

UNI-MAIL CONFERENCE – Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 6:30pm – MR280 ROOM

The intensification and amplification of the conflict in the Middle East is leading to the collapse of healthcare systems and essential infrastructures. Recent bombardments against civilian populations are having long-term consequences.

In other words, the current geopolitical context has a direct impact on the social determinants of health, including poverty, food security, access to drinking water, housing and health services.

This conference aims to explore the interconnections between the right to self-determined development and the right to health, focusing on the effects of this interconnection in the context of the current conflicts in the Middle East. The essential role of civil society and international organizations in supporting these fundamental rights will also be discussed.

Indeed, civil society plays a vital role in providing humanitarian support and advocating the promotion of human rights, while international organizations and UN agencies must work together to ensure that rights are respected.

Speaker: Dr. Kamel Mohanna, medical doctor, author, university professor and committed physician, founder and president of the International Association AMEL – Lebanon.
