INTERGOVERMENTAL WORKING GROUP ON THE RIGHT TO DEVELOPMENT
24th session
(15-19 May 2023)
[Excerpt from the declaration]
We believe that the draft Convention is now mature enough, and we hope that it can be adopted by consensus as soon as possible. Indeed, the multidimensional crisis is worsening throughout the world, and with it inequalities, environmental degradation and massive human rights violations. It is therefore urgent to rethink the dominant development model that is at the root of this disastrous situation. In this sense, the Convention can play a decisive role as a political and legal lever for promoting the right to development in the service of the sovereignty of peoples and States.
