On 25 June 2024, a new foreign military intervention of Haiti began. However, in October 2023, CETIM, La Via Campesina and the Haitian peasant organisations Tet Kole Ty Peyizan Ayitien, Mouvman Peyizan Papay and Mouvman Peyizan Nasyonal Kongre Papay (via CETIM and La Via Campesina), expressed their concern at the imperialist threat of foreign military intervention against the national and popular sovereignty of Haiti. An intervention organised by the dominant elites – internal and external – with a view to safeguarding the neo-colonial strategic interests in the region, using the pretext of criminal gang violence.
As part of the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council, the above-mentioned organisations presented a report warning against this manoeuvre and its harmful repercussions on human rights. The report called for an end to all interference in the country’s internal affairs. It demanded respect for Haiti’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. It called for the initiation of a process of democratic transition (meeting the needs identified by the Montana Accord), with the active participation of social movements. The aim is to create the best possible conditions for the organisation of free and democratic elections.
A Haitian solution, for Haitians!
