Human rights continue to be abused in southern Madagascar

HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
Item 4: Human rights situations that require the Council’s attention

[Extract from the statement]

We are alarmed by the extrajudicial executions to which the population of southern Madagascar continues to be subjected, particularly in the Ankazoabo and Midongy du Sud regions.

As we have already denounced in this forum, since 2012, on the pretext of fighting zebu rustlers (dahalo), the forces of law and order have carried out veritable massacres in this region of Madagascar during operations “Tandroka” and “Coup d’arrêt”, with more than 1,100 victims.

In August 2015, again with the same objective in mind, the Malagasy authorities launched Operation Fahalemena.
