Human rights in Haïti

Today, Haïti is faced with a social structure based on the power of criminal “gangs”ⁱ. Since the 1980s, these armed groups have been exploited by political powers. This phenomenon is on the increase with the presidency of Jovenel Moïse, who is said to have operated in concert with gangs to maintain himself in power until his assassination in 2021.
