New US offensive against Cuba’s sovereignty

28/01/2025

CETIM expresses its deep concern and categorical rejection of the decision of the new President of the United States, Donald Trump, to revoke the order of 14 January 2025 to remove Cuba from the list of countries that allegedly support terrorism. This is the umpteenth unilateral decision by the United States, part of a new chapter in its neo-colonial strategy to undermine the sovereign and self-determined path of the Cuban people.

The Trump administration, guided by its desire to re-establish control over its ‘backyard’, is putting Cuba back in the firing line. It is the return in force of the Monroe Doctrine (1823), i.e. the most absolute denial of the right of peoples to self-determination, of the people’s and States’ sovereignty.

CETIM firmly condemns this act, which aims to undermine the human rights of the Cuban people. CETIM therefore also reiterates the need to immediatly withdraw Cuba from the ‘list of countries supporting terrorism’, as well as to lift immediately, totally and unconditionally all unilateral coercive measures against the island.
