The CETIM in association with the FIMARC and La Via Campesina organized two parallel conferences parallel in the Palais des Nations in Geneva, on the occasion of the 4th session of the intergovernmental workgroup on the rights of the farmers and the other people working in rural areas.
– ” Collective rights: perspectives of the farmers and other people working in rural area ” (May 15th, 2017)
– ” The declaration on the rights of the farmers and other people working in rural area: straight ahead in the seeds of farm and food sovereignty ” (May 16th, 2017).
The adoption of a declaration of the UN on the rights of the farmers is a historic negotiation.
It is imperative to protect these populations. This necessity is more and more underlined by diverse authorities, including by those of the UN.
The right of seeds and of genetic resources is crucial to reach the right of food supply for the whole world population. In this sense, the recognition of the right of the food sovereignty, just like the collective but also individual rights, are also essential.
